Abstract

This survey is conducted to measure the effectiveness of a business simulation game on the understanding of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) concepts and generic skills among Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) students. This study fills the gaps of past studies that place less emphasis on the specific effects of simulation games, especially on knowledge and the improvement of generic skills to prepare students for the working environment. Through the survey method, questionnaires were distributed to the respondents. The study uses the simple convenionce sampling consisted of UTM students from various degree programs who had participated in  the MonsoonSIM workshop and simulation game in 2019. Descriptive statistical tests and t test was used to achieve the objective of the study. The findings of the study showed that the level of students’ knowledge of ERP concepts had increased significantly. Students also improved  on several critical generic skills such as thinking skills, teamwork skills and entrepreneurial skills. Overall this study has shown the potential of business simulation as an effective educational tool.

 

Abstrak

Kajian ini dijalankan untuk mengukur kesan permainan simulasi perniagaan terhadap kefahaman konsep ERP dan kemahiran generik dalam kalangan pelajar UTM. Sampel kajian terdiri daripada pelajar UTM dari pelbagai program ijazah yang telah menyertai permainan simulasi dan bengkel MonsoonSIM pada tahun 2019. Dapatan kajian menunjukkan tahap pengetahuan pelajar mengenai konsep ERP telah meningkat dengan signifikan. Pelajar-pelajar juga dapat meningkatkan kemahiran generik yang kritikal seperti kemahiran berfikir, kemahiran bekerja secara berpasukan dan kemahiran keusahawanan. Ujian statistik deskriptif dan ujian T telah digunakan untuk mencapai objektif kajian. Secara keseluruhan kajian ini telah menunjukkan potensi simulasi perniagaan sebagai alat pendidikan yang berkesan.
