The Effect of Employing Animated Films in Teaching Arabic as a Foreign Language (AFL) to Non-Native Speakers in Thailand Schools

Abstract

This research examines the question as to whether the provided subtitles for cartoon films in multimedia system listening activities helps vocabulary achievement and improves listening abilities. 66 Thai- Arabic-as-a-foreign-language (AFL), Non-Arabic speakers’ students watched a video animation as one of the followings: (a) animation, subtitles, keyword subtitles, (b) animation, subtitles, and (c) animation without subtitles. After completing watching the video animation, the students set for vocabulary recognition along with listening comprehension post-tests, using a software vocabulary production and listening recall tests. A contest was conducted on 22 teams, each team consisting of three students, and conjointly the competition was conducted through Quizzes electronic computer, and conjointly the competition befell in three stages thus each stage reduces the number of participants per their results, and conjointly the results of this study confirmed the importance of exploitation animation in enhancing learning Semitic skills for Non-Arabic speakers.
